Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - It was a busy but productive day for the 2013 Robertson Cup National Champion Amarillo Bulls today (Tuesday) at the North American Hockey League Draft. The Bulls which had the very last pick in the first five rounds selected four forwards and one defenseman.

The Bulls selected Mitchell Vanderburg, Forward, (Honeybaked U-18); Brendan McGuire, Forward, (Pembroke Lumberkings); Ben Jentsch, Defenseman, (Apple Core); Davis Boyer, Forward, (Sarnia Legionnaires); and Mason Boh, Forward, (Colorado Thunderbirds).

Amarillo Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams said he was pleased with all of the selections and was thrilled with the work of the scouting staff led by Assistant Coach Rocky Russo.

"Rocky was reaching out to these kids and contacting their coaches," Williams said. "He was in charge of this draft and did a terrific job so special thanks goes out to him.

"I am very excited about the players we have coming in as they have big shoes to fill, after winning the Robertson Cup. Our Main Camp should be a good and competitive one with the players we have returning and tendered along with our draft picks."

Here is a synopsis of the Bulls selections from the Draft along with a quote from Head Coach Dennis Williams on each player.

MITCHELL VANDERBURG:

Previous Team: Honeybaked Under 18, Position: Forward, Birthday: February 3, 1996, Height: 5-10, Weight: 190. In 31 games with the Honeybaked Under 18 team, Vanderburg netted 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points.

"Mitchell is a player that we liked last year from Honeybaked who is a very skilled forward that put up great numbers in the High Performance League," said Williams. "We knew he wanted to stay home and finish his last year of high school and develop his hockey skills even further. He pursues pucks well, finishes well an all around good hockey player."

BRENDAN MCGUIRE:

Previous Team: Pembroke Lumberkings, Position: Forward, Birthday: July 5, 1993, Height: 6-5, Weight: 205. He notched 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points 58 games.

"He is a big strong power forward that as a 20-year-old can step right in and replace those guys that we lost last season," said Williams. "We are going to rely on him a lot for his maturity, leadership, scoring touch and a big presence in the South Division. I think he will fit in great with us down here."

BEN JENTSCH:

Previous Team: Apple Core (EJHL), Position: Defenseman, Birthday: March 15, 1994, Height: 6-1, Weight: 190. In 44 games with Apple Core, a team located in New York State, he notched six goals and added 24 assists for 30 points.

"We liked him the last two years and attended our pre-draft camp," said Williams. "He's a big

and strong, steady, stay-at-home defenseman that can add offense as well. Ben moves the puck with a good first pass, and one that will be well-liked in the Texas Panhandle."

DAVIS BOYER:

Previous Team: Sarnia Legionnaires, Position: Forward, Birthday: May 19, 1994, Height: 5-9, Weight: 175. In 40 games for the Legionnaires located just across the border in Sarnia Ontario Canada, Boyer had 18 goals and 30 assists for 48 points.

"Davis was at our pre-draft camp last year but due to the import rule we couldn't bring him in,"

said Williams. "I have had great conversations with a lot of college coaches about him. He's another very skilled forward that makes plays. He's a player that has developed over the season, and we had a good relationship with him and wanted to bring here."

MASON BOH:

Previous Team: Colorado Thunderbirds, Position: Forward, Birthday: October 25, 1995, Height: 6-0, Weight: 190. In 40 games played, he netted 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points.

"He's a player that has been on our radar all year," said Williams. "We expect with the confidence he had coming off a good Colorado Thunderbirds team to do well. One of the characteristics we look for is leaders and winners and we feel very comfortable of what he has done out there."
