Frisco Fighters News Release

FRISCO - The Jacksonville Sharks led by a point early in the second quarter on Saturday night.

Then the Fighters muddied the waters, surging by for a 68-33 win.

With 6:12 gone by in the second frame, Martez Carter plowed by Sharks (1-6) defensive back Harrison Poole for an 12-yard rushing touchdown after the Frisco (6-1) defense forced a turnover on downs. Fill-in kicker Rio Ramirez bounced a squib kick on the ensuing kickoff, which Royce See ripped out of DJ Stubbs' grasp for Norris Wrenn to pounce on in the end zone.

Lionell McConnell intercepted Fred Payton Jr.'s deep pass attempt on the initial play of Jacksonville's next touch and Tripp Harrington capitalized by finding a wide open Cole Blackman from 45 yards out shortly after.

Stanley Williams' one-yard run provided a momentary reprieve for the reeling visitors, then a short field set the stage for Harrington to reply with a ground score from the same distance. Charles Williams leaped on a botched jet sweep exchange 10 seconds later and Jimmy Smith rumbled in from four yards out to help give his team a 26-point edge.

Tamorrion Terry's two-yard grab shortened the gap to 20 on the last play of the first half.

Carter added a 19-yard rushing score and Harrington a 16-yard one to stake the Fighters to a 33-point lead in the third frame. Payton and Terry linked up again for a 21-yard aerial with 12:03 to go, which was quickly answered by Carter's third ground score, from four yards, after a failed onside kick. With 5:18 remaining, Carter added a five-yarder, with some gymnastics theatrics after.

Payton's five-yard keeper with under two minutes left closed the scoring.

Harrington finished with three rushing scores, the first being a three-yard effort after an Ethan Caselberry interception in the opening quarter. Not long after, on a 4th-and-1 right outside the goal-line, Payton fought in and Stanley Williams added two more points on the following conversion, giving Jacksonville an 8-7 advantage.
