Fighters Re-Sign Spencer Tears and JD Griggs

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco Fighters head coach Billy Back, announced the re-signing of wide receiver Spencer Tears and defensive lineman JD Griggs for the 2023 season.
Prior to joining the Fighters in the 2022 season, Tears attended Northern Illinois University where he played all four years of his collegiate career. At Northern Illinois, Tears scored a team season-long of an 81-yard pass (2017) and ranked third on the team for receiving yards (2018). The Chicago, Illinois native played in six games last season for the Fighters, recording a total of nine receiving yards, five tackles, 1.5 TOT sacks, and one touchdown.
Back states, ""Spencer is a playmaker and would have been an everyday receiver for the team last season if he was healthy. He is a great player, hard worker and a player that we look forward to seeing shine this upcoming season."
Griggs, a 6-foot-5, 250 pound native of Piscataway, New Jersey returns to Frisco for the upcoming season. He previously signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013 before signing in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Later joining the IFL, Griggs recorded 7.5 sacks, the most in the league, with the Spokane Empire.
Back states, ""JD is our veteran presence, he will be our oldest player that will lead these young guys how to play professionally on and off the field. JD is one of the top defensive ends in the IFL. His length is a problem in the passing lanes, he has the power and speed to make a difference. Having his presence on the defensive line is key for the team."
