Fighters Re-Sign Quarterback TJ Edwards
FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco Fighters announced today that the team has re-signed quarterback TJ Edwards. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound playmaker returns to the Fighters for his second consecutive season.
"TJ stepped up and played a key role for us last season, solidifying his spot as our quarterback," said head coach Billy Back. "He had a hell of a season in the air and on the ground. TJ's a dynamic playmaker and one of the premier dual threat quarterbacks in the IFL. Re-signing him is big for our chances of having a successful 2023 season."
Edwards made his debut with the Fighters in 2021 and played a pivotal role in the success of the team. The Garland, Texas native averaged 10.8 points per game and was among the league's top leaders in rushing, earning a total of 759 yards for 28 touchdowns. Edwards also threw for a total of 1,481 yards earning him 26 touchdowns.
"I'm excited to finish what we started last season," said Edwards. "I'm looking forward to bringing Frisco and my hometown a championship! Year two, here we go!"
Prior to his first season with the Fighters, Edwards spent one season with the Arizona Rattlers. Edwards played collegiately at Southwestern Baptist University from 2015-2017. At SBU, Edwards was the recipient of GLVC Freshman of the Year (2015), Offensive Player of the Year (2016) and Harlon Hill Award candidate after setting a single-season school record with 44 total touchdowns (2016). After taking a year off, Edwards transferred to the University of Indianapolis for his senior year where he threw nearly 2,400 yards for 23 touchdowns.
The Frisco Fighters return to the field next spring for the 2023 season. Full Squadron Memberships are on sale now. Single-game tickets will be on sale at a later date.
