Frisco Fighters News Release
On the road against the Green Bay Blizzard, the Fighters began their season with a bang.
The host team had 16 points in the first quarter, then just 14 the rest of the way, as Frisco erupted for a franchise-high 76 points - 33 of which came unanswered in the second frame.
TJ Edwards and Ed Wesley both ran for two scores in that quarter and Edwards found BJ Bunn for a 19-yard passing score with nine seconds to go in the half to give Frisco (1-0) a 30-point lead at the midway point. Green Bay missed the mark on a field goal, had a turnover on downs, and threw two interceptions in those 15 minutes.
Edwards added to the advantage four plays into the second half and the Blizzard (0-1) finally added to their total on the series that followed when Max Meylor connected with Steve Newbold for a five-yard strike. After a 23-yard Bryce Crawford field goal make, Terrence Smith notched the hosts' final score
Kordell Jackson punctuated the win with a 35-yard pick-six off Meylor with just under four minutes to go.
Edwards finished the day with six ground scores and 78 yards on 14 carries. Michael LoVett had two interceptions and Kyle Meyers another. The Fighters' previous single-game scoring record came in a 68-51 win on the road against the Quad City Steamwheelers last April.
