 Frisco Fighters News Release
FRISCO - Against the team that kept them from reaching last year's IFL National Championship, the Fighters weren't about to be outdone.
Not this time.
Frisco tacked on the first 30 points of Saturday night's Eastern Conference quarterfinal matchup, cruising to a 57-29 home win against the Quad City Steamwheelers.
The Fighters' defense put on a show in the first half, as JD Griggs notched a safety on the visitors' initial possession, then Kordell Jackson a pick on the next. The Steamwheelers (9-7) didn't get on the scoreboard until over halfway through the second frame, but they already faced an insurmountable deficit.
By that time, TJ Edwards had already thrown three touchdowns and scampered for another. Jordan Jolly, Jerminic Smith, and Charles Headen each reeled in a score in the first half.
Frisco (14-2) made it a 44-7 game when Edwards found Jolly again with 8:00 to go in the third, then Edwards hit paydirt on the ground for a third time later in the quarter.
Jimmy Smith also punched it in in the convincing win. For the third year in a row, the Fighters will have a shot at making the league's title game. They'll square off with the Sioux Falls Storm on Saturday.
