Frisco Fighters News Release
FRISCO - The Fighters won't be making the trip to the IFL National Championship game.
For the third time in as many years, Frisco fell just short of competing for the league crown, dropping a 45-44 ballgame to the second-seeded Sioux Falls Storm Saturday night.
The Fighters owned a 17-point halftime advantage and scored a go-ahead touchdown with 46 seconds to go, but the visiting Storm watched Lorenzo Brown surge into the endzone for what wound up being the game-winner with 12 seconds to go.
TJ Edwards raced in for a pair of scores and threw for two more - to Jerminic Smith and Phazione McClurge - in the first half, but a scoreless third quarter for the team allowed Sioux Falls to claw back from a 27-10 deficit.
The Storm went up just over a minute into the fourth frame when Brown hit Draysean Hudson from 28 yards out. The teams would then hand the edge over once each before the scoreboard was leveled at 37.
Edwards' fourth rushing strike of the night came with under a minute left before Brown sealed the win.
The Fighters end the season with a 14-3 mark. Sioux Falls (11-6) will play the Bay Area Panthers - 68-46 winners over defending champion Northern Arizona - for the title on Saturday.
