Chicago Bandits News Release

Rosemont, IL. - Offense was at a premium in the series opener between the Bandits and the Beijing Eagles, but timely hitting led the Bandits to a 2-1 walk-off win.

Rachele Fico was excellent in the circle for the Bandits, allowing one run in seven innings. She only allowed five base runners and struck out six on the way to her seventh victory of the season.

Eagles pitcher Wang Lan threw a superb game as well. Lan allowed one earned run in her six plus innings of work and allowed seven hits. Only four Bandits managed to reach base against Lan in the first six innings of the game, but the loss drops her record to 0-5 on the season.

Both teams struggled offensively at the beginning of the game, collecting two hits apiece in the first four innings. The Bandits finally broke through with the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when pinch hitter Nadia Taylor drove in Caleigh Clifton, pinch running for Courtney Gano, from second base on a single.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Bandits until the top of the seventh inning. After a pop out began the inning for the Eagles, first baseman Xu Jia reached base on a hit by pitch. Next batter Ren Min ripped a double down the right field line, advancing Jia to third base. After a strikeout became the second out of the inning, the tying run was driven in on a single by Yan Siyu. Min attempted to score from second base but was thrown out from center field be Brenna Moss, which ended the inning.

The Bandits responded with a rally of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Designated Player Gwen Svekis started the inning with a single, which was followed up by a scorching double off the left field wall by Gano. After Emily Crane was intentionally walked to load the bases, Abby Ramirez hit a walk-off single up the middle to end the game.

The Bandits and Eagles will face each other in a double header on August 6, beginning at 5:05 PM at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
