The Danville Dashers defeated the St Clair Shores Fighting Saints on Thursday night by a score of 3-2. Gehrett Sargis led the Dashers in the game, tallying a goal, and an assist.

" We played well enough to win, but in my mind, we didn't play well enough to take a step forward as a team, which is not good enough. We have some things to work on, but we will get better and learn from tonight. Anytime you can get three points is a good night " said Dashers ' coach Steve Harrison following the game.

Danville got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first 10 minuets of play. Eric Witzel started the scoring for Danville, after tapping in a rebound, on shot off of the stick of Gehrett Sargis. Cammeron Dimmit continued the scoring a few minutes later, by redirecting a shot that was going to be about four feet wide of the net, and turning it on a path that found a way through the legs of Saint Clair Shores ' goalie Andy DiCristofaro.

After jumping to a quick two goal lead, Danville seemed to fall into cruise control, which has been a problem for them this season.

" I think that (falling into cruise control) is a problem we have. We start to get away from our system, and it doesn't go good for us. I ' m proud of the guys, because we found a way to win, but we have to keep the petal to the metal. "

Gehrett Sargis tallied what would be the game winning goal, early on into the second period.

The Fighting Saints Enver Presheva scored a goal late into the second period, to make it 3-1 going into the locker room after two period. SCS would add one more goal in the third period, making it 3-2, which would hold up to be the final score.

Danville went 1-2 on the power play, and were 0-1 on the penalty kill. Danville leads the league in killing penalties, killing them at a 92% rate.

Danville goalie Louie George stopped 28 of the 30 shots that he saw, and picked up his first home win of the season. " He played well for us tonight, he made some good stops for us. For being his first game in almost a year, he played solid for us tonight. "

Danville leads the Federal Hockey League with 42 points, and are 19 points ahead of the next closest team.

The Dashers will be back in action tonight (Friday), and tomorrow, as they will take on Berlin in a weekend double header. Storm Phaneuf, the FHL ' s leading goaltender, will get the start tomorrow night for Danville.
