Fever's Other Tamika
June 19, 2006 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Indiana Fever News Release
Tamika Catchings is currently leading all vote-getters in the WNBA for the 2006 All-Star Team. Joining her on the Eastern Conference ballot this season is Indiana's newest forward, Tamika Whitmore.
Whitmore, a seven-year WNBA veteran and longtime starter with the New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks, joined the Indiana Fever in March. She signed a free agent contract and has since molded her play with Catchings and seven other Fever newcomers to establish one of the league's best records (8-4) through June 18.
Whitmore has established a career pace in scoring (16.0), rebounds (4.5), assists (2.1) and steals (1.42). Her 16-point scoring average is second only to Catchings (17.0) and Nykesha Sales (16.1) among forward nominees on the Eastern Conference All-Star Ballot. It would be Whitmore's first All-Star appearance.
