Fernandez Extends On-Base Streak as Missions Drop Game Four in Frisco

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions offense struggled on Friday night against the Frisco RoughRiders. San Antonio collected just three hits without scoring a run. The Frisco offense plated seven runs on 10 hits. Noel Vela, making his Double-A debut, struggled as he allowed six of those runs to score. Juan Fernandez recorded one of the three hits and extended his on-base streak to 10 games.

After two scoreless innings, Frisco scored their first two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Vela retired two of the first three batters faced while walking Josh Stowers. Jonathan Ornelas hit a single to extend the inning. Luisangel Acuna drove in both runners with a triple to right-center field. Frisco took a 2-0 lead.

The RoughRiders added a run in the fourth inning. With one out in the inning, Kellen Strahm drew a walk and David Garcia hit a single. Jax Biggers drove in Strahm after hitting a double to right field.

Frisco improved their lead with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ornelas began the inning with a walk and Acuna drove him in with a double. After Blaine Crim reached base on a fielder's choice, Justin Foscue reached base on a base hit. Mason Fox replaced Vela following the Foscue at-bat. After striking out the first batter he faced, Garcia drove in Crim with a base hit to right field. Biggers reached base on a single and Stowers drove in two runs with a double to left field. It was a 7-0 Frisco lead.

Cody Bradford was the starting pitcher for the RoughRiders and he delivered one of the strongest performances of his career. The southpaw allowed three hits without giving up a run in seven innings of work. Bradford issued no walks and struck out nine batters in the outing.

For the Missions, Fox lasted 1.2 innings while allowing one run on four hits and striking out two batters. Kevin Kopps pitched two scoreless innings while allowing baserunner and striking out one batter.

With the loss, San Antonio falls to 16-21 (2nd half), 54-50 (overall) on the season

The San Antonio Missions will continue their six-game series with the Frisco RoughRiders on Saturday, August 13th. Right-hander Nolan Watson (3-4, 5.08) is scheduled to pitch for the Missions. The Frisco RoughRiders have yet to announce a starting pitcher for Saturday's game. First pitch is expected at 7:05 p.m. from Riders Field.
