Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
Idaho Falls Chukars pitcher Andrew Ferguson has been promoted to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the High-A Royals affiliate in the Carolina League.
Ferguson actually started the 2012 season with the Kane County Cougars (Low A), posting a 0-1 record and a 1.93 ERA in two starts before making his predetermined move to Idaho Falls.
With the Chukars Ferguson quickly established himself as the staff ace, cruising to a 2-1 record and a 1.14 ERA. In four starts for Idaho Falls, the 23-year-old Ferguson threw a total of 23.2 innings, allowing just three runs on 16 hits with 21 strikeouts and just six walks. The right-hander leaves with the #2 ERA in the Pioneer League, while also placing in the top 5 in innings pitched, WHIP (0.93) and opponents batting average (.188).
In his last appearance for the Greybirds Ferguson became the first Chukars pitcher to last seven innings this year, as he shutout the Grand Junction Rockies on just four hits while striking out 5 in a July 6th no-decision.
An 18th round selection in the 2011 Draft out of Arkansas St., Ferguson becomes the sixth Opening Day Chukar to leave the team.
