Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
FC Tampa Bay Rowdies are almost in full form as they see the return of a few injured players, including forward Aaron Wheeler, to the field this week. The Rowdies (6-8-9) are gearing up for two games this week against the Carolina RailHawks on Wednesday, August 25, and AC St. Louis on Sunday, August 29; neither team has visited George M. Steinbrenner Field this season.
Tampa heads into the match against Carolina after a 1-1 draw with NASL Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps last Thursday night. A goal by Rowdies leading scorer Aaron King helped tie the match in the 26th minute and earned the Rowdies a point. The point was not enough to keep the Rowdies in the eighth playoff spot who are now just out of the playoff rankings. The Rowdies trail NSC Minnesota Stars, who are in eighth place with 28 points in 33 games, with 27 points but the Rowdies have played two less games than the Stars.
The Carolina RailHawks (8-7-7) come into Wednesday night's match after a 3-2 loss to Austin Aztez on Sunday night. Goals by Austin's Eddie Johnson, Yohance Marshall and Randi Patterson won Austin the three points and keep them in third place for the playoffs. Carolina is currently in fifth place for the playoffs with 31 points.
AC St. Louis (5-11-7) heads to Tampa on Sunday after a 1-1 draw with the Puerto Rico Islanders after the match was suspended and then called due to lightning in San Juan. Goals by Puerto Rico forward Nicholas Adderly and St. Louis forward Mike Ambersley earned both teams one point in the standings. St. Louis sits in the 11th spot in USSF D-2 with 22 points. The Rowdies are also hosting "Faith & Family Night" on Sunday, August 29, and will have a testimony and Q&A with goalkeeper Josh Lambo following the match.
