FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal will host New York Red Bulls II this Saturday at 3pm EDT at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.
New York is coming to Montreal for the second time this season. On May 21, Red Bulls II scored in the 90th minute to win the game 1-0 at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex. Junior Flemmings scored the only goal of the game.
"We're not that far from their level despite the standings," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "We played a good game in the first meeting. We want to be able to do the same, at least, while being more aggressive and efficient. It's always interesting, after an average performance, to play right after. It gives you a chance to focus quickly on the next game."
"The Red Bulls have a really good team with young players like us," said midfielder Louis Beland-Goyette. "It's good to forget about the standings and come out stronger in this game. It's always motivating. I think we have to take the last game against the Red Bulls as an example for Saturday's game. We'd applied our game principles well despite the result."
On Monday, FC Montreal announced the signing of 19-year-old midfielder Jimmy-Shammar Sanon, coming from the Impact U18 ranks. Sanon got his first minutes in the 2-0 loss against Louisville when he subbed on for Anthony Jackson-Hamel in the 73rd minute.
This season, Jackson-Hamel has been the team's top scorer with three goals, while Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla, Alessandro Riggi and Mastanabal Kacher follow with two each. Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau, for his part, is fourth in the USL with 48 saves.
Red Bulls II is currently second in the league with a 9-1-5 record, for 32 points. The team is unbeaten on the road this season, with five wins and a draw. Brandon Allen is their top scorer with five goals.
After this game, FC Montreal goes to Rochester to face the Rhinos for a third time this season on Saturday, July 16, at 7:05 pm EDT at Rochester Rhinos Stadium.
