Switchbacks FC Draw Timbers 2 1-1 After Late Goal from Portland

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Portland, OR (July 7, 2016) - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks drew 1-1 with Portland Timbers 2 after a late goal in the 87th minute by Khalton Belmar of Timbers 2.
In the first of their two game road trip to the Pacific Northwest, the Switchbacks wanted to come out strong. The Switchbacks were able to control the early portions of the match with a few early opportunities. It would be Mike Seth who would find Captain Luke Verollone who would then find the breakthrough and put the Switchbacks up 0-1 on a header in the 16th minute. The Switchbacks would take the lead into halftime.
Unfortunately the second half would be far different for the Switchbacks. The Switchbacks would make a few defensive mistakes and unfortunately the Switchbacks would give up a set piece late in the match. Timbers 2 would score as Khalton Belmar made the best of a mistake by Devala Gorrick that would put the Portland side level. Both teams made an attempt in the closing minutes to get the winner, but neither would be able to find one and the match would finish level.
"We're all disappointed," said Vercollone. "Tonight's draw feels more like a loss. Maybe in a few days we'll look back on it as a point against a decent team, but we just need to refocus and get ready for Sunday in Seattle."
"I thought we had a very good start to the game," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "But, we didn't maintain the momentum we had. We needed more desire from everyone to finish the game off."
The Switchbacks will travel to Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Sunday, July 10th (6:00 PM MT) to finish their road trip to the Pacific Northwest. The match can be seen on switchbacksfc.com.
The Switchbacks will return home on July 12th for the first ever International Friendly at Switchbacks Stadium as they take on German Bundesliga side 1. FSV Mainz 05.
The Switchbacks will return home for USL action on July 16 at 7:00 PM for Cancer Awareness Night and post match fireworks. Tickets are available at switchbacksfc.com or by calling 719-368-8480 x1.
