
FC Dallas Signs Defender Sebastien Ibeagha

FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas has signed defender and 2022 MLS Cup Champion Sebastien Ibeagha as a free agent to a two-year contract with club options for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, the club announced today.
Ibeagha, 30, joins FC Dallas after appearing in 36 matches overall for LAFC from 2021-22. He was part of the LAFC team that won the 2022 MLS Supporters' Shield and 2022 MLS Cup. He also helped anchor the third-best backline in the league that only allowed 38 goals, behind Philadelphia (26) and FC Dallas (37). Prior to his time with LAFC, Ibeagha played three and a half seasons with New York City FC from 2018-21, playing in 71 matches overall.
Ibeagha started his youth soccer career with the Houston Dynamo before a collegiate career at Duke University from 2010-13 where he earned All-ACC honors and 2012 ACC Defensive Player of the Year. After graduating from Duke with a A.B. Degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences, Ibeagha took his soccer career to Europe and signed his first professional contract with Danish first division club AC Horsens in 2013, where he appeared in 17 matches. He also had loan stints with Denmark's FC Fredericia (2014) and Iceland's Fran Reykjavik (2015).
After two years in Europe, the Nigerian-born defender returned to the U.S. and signed with the Dynamo in 2016 before going on loan to Houston's USL affiliate Rio Grande Valley and NASL's Rayo OKC. He later signed with San Antonio FC in 2017 and appeared in 30 matches. He was named to the 2017 USL All-League First Team and 2017 USL Defender of the Year while with San Antonio.
Ibeagha has represented the United States at various youth levels, including the U-20s and U-23s. His older brother Christian Ibeagha trained with FC Dallas during the 2011 and 2012 preseasons.
