FC Dallas News Release

FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2011) - FC Dallas has agreed to terms with Panamanian striker Blas Pérez and Colombian defender Hernan Pertuz, the club announced today. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Pérez, who will turn 31 on Feb. 13, scored 19 goals in 23 starts during his last full season with Len of the Mexican second division. The 6-1 Panamanian had a strong showing at last summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup. He scored Panama's first goal of the tournament just 29 minutes into its 3-2 win over Guadeloupe. He found the back of the net three times during the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

A proven goal-scorer at the top level, Pérez scored eight goals for Tigres UANL in 2008 and nine for Pachuca in 2009. He will be called upon to provide Dallas with a consistent scoring threat at the forward position.

"Blas is a player we always had on our radar," FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said. "We are extremely happy we found a way to bring him to MLS to play for FC Dallas. Pérez is a tremendous striker that continues to score goals everywhere he goes. We expect him to bring that finishing ability to FC Dallas."

Along with forward Fabian Castillo, Pertúz is the second youthful Colombian FC Dallas has signed in the past year. The six-foot center back will turn 23 on March 31. He scored one goal this season with Independiente MedellÃ-n, who finished the Liga Postobon with a 6-8-4 record. The up-and-coming defender will be called upon to add depth to the FC Dallas backline.

"Pertúz is a solid center back that has captained the Colombian U-23 National Team," said Hyndman. "He is a player that will bring us the balance we need on our team and provide us with another strong defender in this position."
