FC Dallas Acquires Honduran Defender Maynor Figueroa from Colorado for General Allocation Money

FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas has sent General Allocation Money to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for defender Maynor Figueroa, the club announced today. Per MLS policy, the terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

"Maynor Figueroa is an experienced player that will help solidify our defensive unit," said FC Dallas Technical Director Fernando Clavijo. "We are excited to have him in Dallas."

Figueroa, 32, joined the Rapids on Aug. 7, 2015, after being released by English club Hull City.

The Honduras international - who has World Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, Olympic Games and English Premier League experience to his name - made 10 appearances for Colorado, netting one goal last season. He captained Honduras' 2015 Gold Cup squad, which opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to the U.S. at Toyota Stadium last July.

The 32-year-old operated at left back or center back during his eight seasons in the Premier League. Initially, he joined Wigan Athletic on loan in 2008 from Honduran side Olimpia but the deal was made permanent the following year. In total, Figueroa played 200 games for Wigan, scoring six goals. He moved to Hull City in 2013 and played 45 games over two seasons before his release at the end of the 2015 campaign.

Figueroa has amassed over 100 caps for Honduras. He has represented his country at three CONCACAF Gold Cups and started all three games in the 2015 tournament. He also appeared at the 2010 and 2014 World Cup, plus the 2012 Olympics.

FC Dallas opens its 2016 campaign against the Philadelphia Union at Toyota Stadium on Sunday, March 6. The match, presented by AdvoCare, is set to kick off at 2 p.m. CT.
