Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs were not happy with their performance in Monday night's 14-5 loss to Wilmington. They took out their aggression on the unsuspecting Columbia Blowfish on Tuesday.
Helped out by two Columbia errors, the SwampDogs scored nine runs on six hits in the first inning en route to a 10-4 win over the Blowfish at Capital City Stadium. Danny Gesick delivered an RBI double and Billy Urban followed with a two-run triple to break the game open early for Fayetteville (6-1).
Starter Dom Macaluso (1-0) has his second consecutive strong outing this season, throwing eight strong innings to help a severely depleted earn some much-needed rest. He allowed four runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out seven to earn the first win by a SwampDogs starter this season.
Columbia's Zach Smith, announced as the Coastal Plain League player of the week, accounted for the only runs against Macaluso. He drilled a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning and a solo shot in the fourth, but that was all the offense the Blowfish could muster.
Starter Patrick Ludwig (0-1) lasted just one inning for Columbia (3-4), allowing nine runs - five earned - on six hits and a walk. The Blowfish made five errors total on the night, and have now lost two straight.
The SwampDogs continue their four-game road swing tomorrow night with their second trip of the season to Wilmington. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The SwampDogs return home to J.P. Riddle Stadium on Saturday night against Florence, and the first 500 fans 21 and up will receive a free pint glass courtesy of R.A. Jeffreys Distributing and Budweiser. Gates open at 6 p.m., with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
