COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs used timely, late-inning hitting and 5.2 innings of scoreless relief to overcome a 5-1 deficit and beat the Columbia Blowfish, 7-6, on Saturday night at Capital City Stadium.

Danny Gesick drove in Cody Davis with the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning off Blowfish reliever Greg Harrison (0-2). Gesick went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, along with that RBI.

Cory Kent (3-0) pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings for Fayetteville (19-11), earning the victory. He was relieved with two on and one out by Davis, who retired the final two batters to earn his ninth save of the year.

Kent came on in place of Brandon Huffman, who threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter Alex Belew, who was charged with all six runs scored by Columbia (9-21).

Zach Briggs went 3-for-3 with two walks and an RBI, while Eric Grabe was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. John Hogan also had a big night, belting his first homerun of the year and finishing with 2 RBI's on the night.

Neither Belew nor Blowfish starter John Long factored in the decision. Long gave up four runs in just four innings of work, allowing eight hits in his second consecutive start against the SwampDogs.

The SwampDogs return home for their annual Independence Day fireworks spectacular on Sunday against the Wilson Tobs. Box seats are already sold out for the game, but general admission tickets are still available. Gates will open at 5 p.m., an hour earlier than usual, with a special Sunday start time of 7:05 p.m. at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
