Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Suns starter Tommy Farmer is about the only player happy to hear the first-place Carolina Mudcats are coming to town.

Farmer (3-3) earned the victory, continuing his dominance of the Mudcats in the Suns' 5-1 victory Saturday in front of 7,162 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. He allowed one run – a leadoff home run to Matt Padgett – over seven innings to add to his previous streak of 13 scoreless innings against Carolina.

The Suns (23-24) scored early off Mudcats starter Randy Messenger but stranded the bases loaded in the first inning. Messenger (2-4) earned the loss and needed 38 pitches to escape the first, where Jacksonville scored one run. Brennan King singled home Gookie Dawkins to give the Suns a 1-0 lead.

Messenger gave up three runs in the second inning: one on Jason Repko's RBI single and two more on Victor Diaz's single. Diaz went 2-for-3, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Diaz was thrown out three times on the basepaths – twice at the plate.

The Mudcats (29-17) were limited to five hits and lost to the Suns for the first time in the last four meetings. Padgett had two hits to lead Carolina. The league's leading hitter, Mudcats third baseman Miguel Cabrera, went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Dawkins and Reggie Abercrombie also had two hits to pace the Suns.

Right-hander Heath Totten (3-4, 4.42 ERA) is scheduled to face Mudcats righty Donnie Bridges (3-1, 3.26) at 7:05 p.m. Sunday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
