Richmond Raiders News Release
When the Richmond Raiders and the Knoxville Nighthawks played last Saturday in Richmond, the Nighthawks were routed 70 to 42. But the score of that game does not necessarily project a true picture of the offensive potential of each team. Richmond's defense dominated that day by forcing eight Knoxville turnovers and scoring four touchdowns, three on pass interceptions and one on a fumble recovered in the Nighthawk's end zone. Richmond's offense, on the other hand, scored five touchdowns while Knoxville's scored seven.
No doubt Knoxville's coaches have been drilling their quarterback, their receivers and ball carriers on taking care to keep the ball out of the hands of Richmond defenders. On Saturday the Nighthawks will have their chance to prove they can do so when Richmond travels to Knoxville for a rematch. Richmond's fans are wondering, can their team's defense keep up the pressure, and if not, will the offense step up?
Statistics from last Saturday's game give an indication of the offensive abilities of each team. Nighthawks' quarterback, Tony Colston, completed 19 of 34 attempts for 218 yards, five of them for touchdowns against Richmond on Saturday. Richmond Raiders quarterback Antwon Young threw 24 times and completed ten. He did, however, account for four TDs, including three touchdown passes to Jason Lovett and one on a two-yard run. And Richmond's ground game showed muscle. Fullback, Jordan Pavilisin, carried five times, one for a touchdown, for a net gain of 48 yards, giving him a 9.6 rushing average for the game.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on Tennessee Sports Radio, 1180 AM. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Richmond fans can listen to it on the Internet at http://www.tnsportsradio.com/
