Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release
LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers and Albany Panthers will meet up for the second time this season on Saturday, March 31st, at 6:30 p.m. central standard time in the Albany Civic Center. This is a rematch of last Saturday's contest in which Albany defeated Louisiana 58-55 at the end of regulation. For the 2012 season the Bucs are at 1-1 while the Panthers remain undefeated at 2-0.
The Swashbucklers will have several points to work on in preparation for this next encounter. Last week the team committed 10 penalties for 69 yards, two turnovers were made and kicker Blake Bercegeay missed four field goals. The fourth one was 42 yards and went wide right at the end of the game. If successful the contest would have gone into overtime.
Despite the team's performance the Bucs led at several intervals of the game. They took the lead at 55-51 with 55 seconds left in regulation when Louisiana's wide receiver/quarterback Sammy Knight hit the end zone on a six-yard running play. The Panthers took the lead back again for good when Albany's signal caller Cecil Lester found receiver Clenton Rafe with a seven yard pass and only 4.5 seconds remaining. Louisiana got the ball back with enough time to attempt a field goal but was unsuccessful.
Quarterbacks Alvin Bartie for Louisiana and Lester provided a captivating offensive duel for the fans. Bartie had 12 completions out of 20 attempts with no interceptions for 119 yards and one touchdown. Lester had 22 out of 41 with one interception for 207 yards and four touchdowns. Louisiana wide receiver Sammy Knight came in later for Bartie and had three out of seven for 55 yards.
This was the first meeting between the two teams since the July 2nd championship game last year when Albany defeated Louisiana 69-48. After this coming Saturday's game the Swashbucklers and Panthers will meet up again for a third time on Saturday, May 12th. That contest is also scheduled for the Albany Civic Center.
