Swashbucklers to Play Alabama Hammers Saturday

LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers are preparing to start a three-game road trip that will determine how the team will finish the 2013 season. Though at 4-4 right now, the Bucs will be looking to get above .500 when taking on the Alabama Hammers Saturday (June 1st), at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala. This is the first meeting between the two teams this season. The game that was originally scheduled in Lake Charles on May 25th will be rescheduled at a later time and in a different venue.

The Hammers have emerged at the top of the Professional Indoor Football League rankings at present. Alabama is at 6-2, just slightly ahead of the Richmond Raiders. The Swashbucklers are still in contention for a playoff spot though tied with the Albany Panthers at present.

The Bucs, in their last game, pulled off a last second win over the Richmond Raiders in a hard-fought contest that ended with a 68-66 victory. The game went into double overtime and the lead changed a few times during regulation play. For his efforts, Louisiana quarterback Chris Mitchell was named the week 11 PIFL Offensive Player of the Week. Mitchell had five touchdown passes and guided the offense in erasing a 13 point score differential. He had two rushing touchdowns late in the final period that gave the Swashbucklers a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime. Mitchell had completed 19 out of 34 passes for 243 yards against Richmond. Up to this point, he has made 85 pass attempts without an interception.

The Hammers offense will once again look to quarterback Russell Hill to keep Alabama at the top of the standings. In 2013, Hill has thrown 132 completions out of 237 attempts for 1,964 yards. He has 47 touchdowns to his credit.

Following this match, the Swashbucklers will be traveling to Knoxville to take on the Nighthawks for the third time this season on Saturday, June 8th. Other PIFL action for this week includes the Albany Panthers against the Richmond Raiders along with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks taking on the Columbus Lions.
