June 10, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL) - Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, CALIF. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team will take part in the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday, June 14 at Woodward Park. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m., with the walk starting at 9:00 a.m.

Falcons head coach Matt Thomas, defensemen Daryl Marcoux and Matt O'Dette, as well as front office staff members will be participating in the walk. Fans are invited to join the Falcons team for the walk. For more information, or to join the Falcons team for the walk, click on the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes link on the Falcons website at www.fresnofalcons.com.

JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.

Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.16 billion to diabetes research, including more than $137 million in FY2007. In FY2007, the Foundation funded 700 centers, grants and fellowships in 20 countries.

The Falcons return downtown to Selland Arena for the 2008-09 season. The home opener is Friday, October 24 against the Bakersfield Condors at 7:30 p.m. Season Ticket packages start at just $432, and are now available by calling the Falcons at (559) 485-7825.
