Falcons Sign Three Defensemen to Tryout Agreements

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that the club has signed defensemen Jeremiah McCarthy, Martin Wilde, and Grady Moore to professional tryout agreements.

McCarthy, 27, returns to Springfield where he registered 14 points (5g, 9a) and 46 penalty minutes (PIM) in 43 games with the Falcons during the 1999-2000 season. The upcoming campaign will mark the 6'0", 210-pounder's sixth season of professional hockey. McCarthy recorded 18 points (1g, 17a) in 55 AHL games with the Lowell Lock Monsters and Grand Rapids Griffins last season. He skated 11 games for Grand Rapids after being acquired from Lowell on March 13th in exchange for forwards Dustin Whitecotton and Rustyn Dolyny. McCarthy also collected one assist in 12 playoff games for the Griffins last season. The defenseman began the campaign with Amur Khabarovsk of the Russian League, playing four contests. McCarthy posted AHL career-highs in points (35), goals (7), and assists (28) in 74 games with Lowell in 2001-02. During a four-year collegiate career at Harvard University (ECAC) which concluded with the 1997-98 season, the Boston native collected 58 points (22g, 36a) in 117 games.

Wilde, 26, skated for MoDo Hockey of the Swedish Elite League (SEL) last season, registering three points (1g, 2a) and 34 PIM in 48 games. The 6'4", 215-pound native of Linkoping, Sweden led the Providence Bruins in plus/minus at +10 as a rookie during the 2001-02 campaign while adding 11 points (2g, 9a) and 46 PIM in 71 games. Prior to becoming a professional, Wilde posted 51 points (6g, 45a) and 100 PIM in 111 games over four seasons at the University of Vermont (ECAC).

Moore, 25, ranked ninth in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) among defensemen as a rookie last season as he posted 47 points (7g, 40a) in 65 games for the Toledo Storm. The Castlegar, British Columbia product also collected five assists in seven playoff games. Moore earned a five-game call-up to the Cleveland Barons in late January. During his collegiate career, the 5'11", 180-pound blueliner tallied 72 points (22g, 50a) and 171 PIM in 150 contests at Bowling Green (CCHA) from 1998 to 2002.

"You can never have enough depth at defense," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon. "Jeremiah and Martin both have experience in the AHL and Grady is a gifted offensive defenseman who was recommended to us by Bill Armstrong, coach of Trenton in the ECHL."
