Falcons Finalize Deadline Deal

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons have traded the rights to goaltender Brett Jaeger and left wing Derek Krestanovich to the Pensacola Ice Pilots, completing the trade for defenseman Chris Heid, who was originally acquired at the ECHL trade deadline on March 15 from the Ice Pilots in exchange for future considerations.
"It's always a tough decision to trade anyone, but we felt we needed to make this deal at the deadline to improve our chances of winning a championship as a group," said Falcons head coach and general manager Matt Thomas. "Brett and Derek were a big part of us nearly getting it done and that's why the deal was structured to keep them with us along with Chris Heid through our entire run. Both players will be tough to replace."
Both Jaeger and Krestanovich joined the Falcons as rookies at the start of the 2004-05 season. Jaeger set new team records for goals against average (2.49) and save percentage (92.7%) during his first year as a pro before being named an ECHL All-Star last season. Over his two seasons in Fresno, Jaeger compiled a record of 40-15-14 with a 2.56 goals against average and .920 save percentage.
Krestanovich scored 20 goals as a rookie in 2004-05 before setting a new career high with 45 points (14g-31a) and a team-best +15 rating last season.
After spending the final month of the regular season in the American Hockey League with the Cleveland Barons, Heid finally joined the Falcons mid-way through their first round sweep over the San Diego Gulls during last season's Kelly Cup Playoffs. The former third round pick of the Minnesota Wild was a shot-blocking mainstay on the penalty kill and recorded two goals and two assists in 16 playoff games as the Falcons advanced all the way to Game Seven of the National Conference Finals.
