San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls announced Monday the completion of two "future consideration" trades made during the 2005-06 season. Jesse Bennefield and Nikita Korovkin's rights were dealt to the Phoenix RoadRunners, while Evan Shaw's rights were sent to the Bakersfield Condors.
Bennefield and Korovkin complete the trade that sent winger J.F. Soucy and goaltender Michael Mole to the Gulls from Phoenix in March. San Diego also sent Patrick Levesque to the RoadRunners in the same deal.
Meanwhile, Shaw completes the trade that sent veteran winger Dennis Shiryaev to San Diego in late February.
Bennefield led the Gulls with 30 goals last season, which placed him fourth among all ECHL rookies. He was second on the club with 60 points, tying him for ninth among league freshman. The 6-foot, 195-pounder from Calgary, Alberta notched a career-high four points three times in 2005-06 (Dec. 17 vs. Bakersfield, Jan. 7 vs. Utah and Feb. 26 at Stockton). Bennefield netted his first career hat trick Dec. 7 vs. the Grizzlies.
Korovkin just completed his second professional season, both with the Gulls. The 6-foot-2-inch, 198-pound native of Zlatoust, Russia recorded 20 points (7g, 13a) in 2005-06, one fewer than the 21 points he accumulated in 2004-05.
Shaw registered eight points (4g, 4a) and 60 penalty minutes in 2005-06, his rookie year. The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pounder from Narragansett, R.I. began the season with the Columbia Inferno before being dealt to the Gulls in December.
The Gulls open their fourth season in the ECHL in October. Season ticket packages are currently on sale. For pricing and benefits, contact 619-224-GOAL, ext. 7.
