Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (31-15-1-4) were defeated by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by the final score of 5-2 Saturday night at the MassMutual Center, marking the team's fourth losing streak of three games or more this season.
Bridgeport converted on two of its five power plays, both goals scored by defenseman Matt Donovan. For Donovan, the tallies were his fifth and sixth of the season. Jake Newton, Johan Sundstrom and Ryan Strome scored the other three goals for the Sound Tigers. Strome's score was on a converted penalty shot, the second against the Falcons in as many nights.
The Falcons converted on one of their five power-play opportunities, as Tim Erixon fired a slap shot from the high slot that beat Bridgeport netminder Anders Nilsson. Erixon's goal gave Springfield a 1-0 lead just 3:31 into the contest. Saturday's defeat was only the team's fourth in regulation this season in games when scoring the first goal.
Andrew Joudrey scored the other Springfield tally on a deflection in front of the net at the 3:47 mark. For the Bedford, Nova Scotia native, it was his ninth goal and 20th point of the season.
Jeremy Smith made seven saves on 10 shots in 12:17 between the posts for the Falcons before being relieved by Mike McKenna. McKenna stopped 18 of 20 shots in the remaining 47:43.
Nilsson made 15 saves on 17 shots, earning his eighth win of the season and second straight versus Springfield.
The Falcons are back in action versus the Worcester Sharks Sunday, February 16 at 3:00 p.m.
