Fresno Falcons News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors defeated the Fresno Falcons 4-2 in game three of their National Conference Quarterfinal Playoff Series on Friday in front of 7,219 fans at Rabobank Arena. Fresno still leads the series 2 games to 1, and will host the next two games at Save Mart Center.
The Condors turned the tables on the Falcons in the opening period of game three. After Fresno had taken 2-0 leads in the first period of each of the first two games, it was Bakersfield who took the two-goal lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play. David Kudelka opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the contest, pinching in from the blue line, and chipping a shot over the out-stretched glove of Ryan MacDonald on the near post.
Bakersfield's power-play went to work midway through the period to extend the lead to two. Kevin St. Jacques took a pass in the high slot, and had his initial shot stopped by MacDonald, but he gathered in his own rebound and sent his second opportunity past MacDonald for his first goal of the playoffs.
Fresno made it a one-goal game with a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 12:21 of the second period. Dustin VanBallegooie moved the puck to Cory Murphy in the right-wing circle, and he one-timed a shot past Rejean Beauchemin for his second goal of the playoffs.
Rane Carnegie restored Bakersfield's two-goal lead 4:59 into the final period, pushing a rebound past MacDonald from the right-wing circle.
The Falcons answered cutting the deficit to one at 8:27. Jeff State's shot from the right point was stopped by Beauchemin, but Brian McConnell swept the rebound into the net from the top of the crease for his first of the series.
Fresno received a power-play opportunity with 1:36 remaining in regulation when Brett Lutes was sent to the box for hooking. The Falcons pulled MacDonald for an extra attacker, making it a 6-on-4 advantage, but Kudelka sent the puck the length of the ice into the empty net to ice the game for the Condors.
The series returns to Fresno on Sunday for game four with face-off at 5:00 p.m. All fans in attendance receive a Falcons Playoff Team Photo, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance receive a Falcons Playoff Rally Towel, both courtesy of Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino
