Springfield, Mass. – The Springfield Falcons, American Hockey League affiliate of the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, today announced that the club has agreed to a new partnership with WMAS-AM 1450 for the radio station to broadcast the team's games during the 2005-06 season. The Falcons also announced the hiring of John Michael as the team's radio play-by-play broadcaster.

WMAS-AM 1450 will broadcast Falcons hockey for the first time in the 2005-06 season. The station will carry both home and road contests from the team's 80-game schedule as well as post-season action.

"We're thrilled about our new partnership with WMAS. As we continue to market and brand our team, it is important that we have a radio partner who will be able to broadcast all of our games and who we can work closely with on other broadcast and promotional opportunities," said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. "We will also continue to webcast our games through our team website and are looking at other exciting broadcasting possibilities that may soon be available to us."

"We're very excited to have the Falcons as part of our family," stated WMAS Vice President and General Manager Susan Murray. "We feel the Falcons will be a great asset to WMAS-AM and we'll provide a great venue for the fans to hear their games."

Michael joins the Falcons after two seasons as the radio voice of the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs. In his second season in the league, the Aliquippa, Pennsylvania native was chosen to broadcast the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game for NHL Radio. Michael also spent the summer of 2003 in baseball as play-by-play broadcaster of the Hagerstown Suns, Class A affiliate of the New York Mets. Through his time with the Chiefs and Suns, he worked for the MSA Sports Network in Pennsylvania broadcasting a variety of sports and hosting sports talk shows.

"We are excited about John Michael joining the Falcons as our new play-by-play broadcaster. I am positive our fans are going to enjoy his style and the professionalism with which he delivers the game to our audience," said Landon.

Prior to embarking on his broadcasting career, Michael earned a law degree, an MBA, and a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Notre Dame, all with cum laude honors, in an eight-year span. Following graduation from law school in 1998, he joined the prestigious Pittsburgh law firm of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart where he practiced law full time as a trial attorney specializing in construction law for five years.

"To become a part of one of the most established and classiest organizations in the American Hockey League is a great honor for me," said Michael. "I look forward to joining the Springfield community and getting to know the staff and the Falcons fans who have played such a large role in making this a great organization."
