October 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. â The Fresno Falcons have signed centerman Shawn Heaphy, who has recorded more than 400 goals and 800 points in a prolific career spanning 13 years in professional leagues in North America and Europe. Heaphy's signing along with six players on professional tryout agreements bring the total number of players at training camp to 30, which will be trimmed to 20 active players for the team's season opener on Oct. 22 at Save Mart Center against the Las Vegas Wranglers.
Originally taken 26th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1989 NHL Supplemental Draft, Heaphy racked up 290 points (143g-147a) over five full seasons in the International and American Hockey Leagues, garnering IHL All-Star honors with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in 1991-92. He managed to crack the Flames line-up for one game in 1992-93, making Heaphy the 14th player in Falcons history to have suited up in the NHL. The native of Windsor, ON, left North America for Switzerland in 1996, where he averaged nearly two points per game for six seasons in the Swiss National League before playing in Germany the past two seasons.
Joining Heaphy on the Falcons' training camp roster are six players that have agreed to professional tryouts with the club: left winger Karlis Gajevskis, goaltender Brett Jaeger, defenseman Jozef Kubaliak, defenseman Brian Sommariva, centerman Mark Wasmuth and right winger Justin Wise. The ECHL deadline for teams to submit their 20-man opening day active rosters is Oct. 20. A complete 2004-05 training camp roster is attached to this release.
Falcons single-game tickets are now on sale for as low as $8 per seat. Tickets may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
