Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Lee Falardeau will be returning for his fifth year in Charlotte as he agreed to terms with the team earlier today.

Falardeau, 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, is a Midland, Mich. native and played three seasons for Michigan State University. He was drafted by the New York Rangers in the second round of the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft and split time between the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack and Checkers during his professional career. Last season, he totaled 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 33 games. In four years with the Checkers, he has suited up in 121 games while recording 41 goals and 47 assists for 88 points.

Despite coming off hip procedure, general manager and head coach of the Checkers Derek Wilkinson thinks Falardeau can be a dominant force when healthy.

"We know how good he's been impaired, if he's healthy he may be the best player in the league and we are excited about getting him back," said Wilkinson. "He's a game-breaker type of player and he's nearly impossible to contain off the wall. He's so big and strong and can do so many things on the ice."

Falardeau is equally jovial about his return to form for the 2008-09 season.

"It's going to be great to come back and I really look forward to making a great run with the team this season," said Falardeau. "The Checkers are truly a great organization and I am proud to return."

The Checkers are getting ready for their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are entering their fourth season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $396.
