
Nailers Release Qualifying Offers

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers announced today the list of eight players that received qualifying offers for the 2008-09 season. By qualifying these players, the Nailers now own the ECHL rights to them for the entire 2008-09 season.
Each team was entitled to reserve rights to a maximum of eight (8) Qualified Players. Of these eight (8) Qualified Players, no more than four (4) of the Qualified Players shall be Veterans (260 regular season professional hockey games played as of the start of the upcoming 2008-09 season).
Players issued a qualifying offer by the Nailers include Sean Collins, Curtis Darling, Tyson Marsh, Julien Brouillette, Steve McJannett, Sean Berkstresser, Todd Spencer, and Chris Snavely.
Collins, 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, played his college hockey at the University of New Hampshire and was a 9th round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2002 NHL entry draft. Sean has played the last three seasons for the Nailers scoring 69 goals with 139 assists for 208 points.
Darling, 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, appeared in 27 games for the Nailers posting a 7-17-3 record with a 970 save percentage.
Marsh, Brouillette, and McJannett were acquired in a trade deadline deal that sent Defensemen Jeremy Swanson and Chris Brooks to Columbia.
Berkstresser, 6-foot, 200 pounds, played his college hockey at Robert Morris College before joining the Nailers late last season. Sean appeared in 8 games for the Nailers posting 1 goal with 1 assist for 2 points and 11 penalty minutes in 2007-08.
Spencer,6-foot-3, 215 pounds, played in 57 games for the Nailers in 2007-08. Todd scored two goals with 6 assists for 8 points and 79 penalty minutes last season. Spencer played four years at Sacred Heart University before the Nailers.
Snavley, 5-foot-7, 170 pounds, appeared in 57 games for Nailers in 2007-08. The Lancaster, PA native scored 4 goals with 14 assists for 18 points for the Nailers.
Players will have until August 1 to accept a qualifying offer. Players on open Qualifying Offers cannot be traded. Teams were not required to protect players who signed a Standard Players Contract prior to July 1. Teams are not allowed to sign more than 24 players to contracts during the summer.
