
Fairbanks Slips Past Wild In Shootout

Fairbanks, AK. - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs scored late in regulation to tie the game, and then outscored the Wild in the deciding shootout, to skate past Wenatchee 3-2 Friday night at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
The Wild scored late in the opening period, as Omar Mullan (Dearborn, Michigan) banged home a centering pass from Joseph Kaszupski (Henderson, Nevada) that came from behind the net to Mullan, who was stationed in front of the net. The goal, coming at 17:34, gave Wenatchee a 1-0 lead.
The Ice Dogs tied the game early in the second period. Viktor Liljegren picked up his own rebound and scored in tight, assisted by Tayler Munson and Hans Gorowsky at 5:26, making it a 1-1 game.
The Wild scored on the power play early in the third to regain the lead. Nicholas Rivera (Pacific Palisades, California) scored on a deflection in front, with Christian Salvato (LaVerne, California) and River Rymsha (Huntington Woods, Michigan) getting the assists at 4:24, putting Wenatchee back on top 2-1. The lead lasted until late in regulation when, with the goaltender off for the extra attacker, Munson scored on a rebound to tie it for Fairbanks. Liljegren and Duggie Lagrone assisted at 19:08, knotting the game 2-2 and forcing overtime.
In the extra session, the Ice Dogs outshot the Wild 5-1, but neither team was able to score and the game would proceed to the deciding shoot out.
In the shootout, Parker Tuomie (Biemerhaven, Germany) scored in round one for Wenatchee and for Fairbanks, Munson scored in round one and Gorowsky scored in round four, giving the Ice Dogs the extra standings point, with the 3-2 win.
Fairbanks outshot the Wild 31-29 on the night. Gustaf Johansson (Uppsala, Sweden) made 28 saves for Wenatchee and Kevin Aldridge had 27 stops for the Ice Dogs. The Wild were 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill.
Wenatchee is now 18-16-4; Fairbanks is 28-12-0.
The Wild concludes their road trip in Fairbanks with one more game tomorrow night (Saturday), before returning home to face Bismarck on Friday and Saturday, January 24th and 25th. Individual and group game tickets for all home games are on sale now. Call 509.888.PUCK (7825).
