January 20, 2011. Fairbanks, AK. The Fairbanks Grizzlies are pleased to announce the signing of University of Mary lineman Ryan Nelson and Nick Thornton-Jack. Nelson, a 6'4 260 Defensive Lineman from Big Horn, WY, was an All-NSIC performer and Team Captain for the Marauders this fall and recorded 38 tackles on the season. Thornton-Jack, a 6'3 315 Offensive Lineman from Seattle, WA was a 3-year starter and an All-NSIC performer for the Marauders in 2009. Nelson and Thornton-Jack will re-join former Marauder teammates LT Brown and Shawn Melland on the Grizzlies roster.
"It is good to be able to add depth to our roster with guys that I know are team first guys," stated Fairbanks Grizzlies Head Coach Robert Fuller. "Ryan fought through a string of injuries to have a good senior season and I am anxious to see what he can do now that he is healthy. Ryan has a tremendous work ethic and is as tough as they come. Nick was three year starter and played a lot of football in college. He is one of those guys that the fans will love and he is known for his community support. While a student at the University of Mary Nick created a fundraiser and awareness for Children's cancer research. It will take some time for Ryan and Nick to adjust to the speed of the game and level of talent in the IFL but they'll be in the mix soon enough."
The Fairbanks Grizzlies are proud members of the Indoor Football League (IFL). The 2011 season kicks off in February. Season tickets for the Grizzlies 2011 season are available for purchase. Call (907) 452-5123 for details.
