
Fairbanks Grizzlies add four players for 2009 season

Fairbanks, AK. 1.06.09. Ricky Bertz, General Manager of the Fairbanks Grizzlies announced the signing of (3) new players and the resigning of (1) for the 2009 season. Dion Myers, Daudi White, Asi Faoa will be playing their first year for the organization along with the return of Anthony Parks from last years team.
Dion Myers-DB/WR
5'10" - 190 lbs
Deon is a California native who has lived in Long Beach since the age of 6. Since playing high school football at Long Beach Wilson High School, Deon has excelled both on the field and off the field. After playing high school football for 4 years, Deon went on to play college football for 4 years. Deon played two years at Long Beach Community College in California and two years at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado while majoring his studies in Sports Administration. Deon performed so we'll as a defensive back that he recently participated in a private workout for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars in June of 2008.
Deon enjoys watching "The Simpson's" as his favorite television show, in addition to playing Madden 09 Football, meeting new people, listening to all types of music, and loves to laugh. Deon's favorite NFL football team is the Washington Redskins, and his favorite player is Sean Taylor. After his football career, Deon wants to become a head coach at the highest collegiate level, and settle down to raise a family. He looks up to his brother-in-law, who plays CFL football for the Edmonton Eskimos.
Daudi White - WR/DB
6'0" - 210 lbs
Daudi White comes from Pittsburg, California after recently graduating from the University of Missouri-Rolla where he played college football for 4 years. White will focus primarily on playing as a defensive back for the Grizzlies this coming season and anticipates being a key component in a much anticipated improved defense. White made his first trip to Fairbanks back in early December when the Grizzlies where having their local tryouts. Daudi wanted to see Fairbanks first hand and view the practice facilities, the Carlson Center, and the front office all prior to signing as he had multiple offers to play for other teams.
Aside from playing football, White enjoys watching the NFL Network Channel, ESPN and National Geographic shows. His favorite movies are Face-Off, Rocky 4, Transformers and Iron Man just to name a few. White views himself as an easy going individual off the field, but is a dedicated athlete in the gym and on the field.
Asi Faoa - FB/LB
6'4" - 257 lbs
Asi is the first player signed by the Fairbanks Grizzlies who has played in the AFL, where he spent 2 seasons with the Arizona Rattler. Prior to playing for the Rattlers, Faoa played with the af2's Los Angeles Avengers and the San Diego Riptide where he first meet Head Coach Sean Ponder, who is now the head coach of the Fairbanks Grizzlies.
Faoa played college football at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) for five years where he majored in political science. He started at linebacker in the 1999 season opener as a true freshman. In 2000, Faoa made the switch from linebacker to defensive end. As a senior in 2003, he played both end and tackle, and was the co-winner of UCLA's Jerry Long "Heart" Award.
Faoa resides in Anaheim, California. His hobbies include sumo wrestling and Polynesian dancing. His full name is Asiolefolasa Asoau Faoa. A three-sport star and student body president at Magnolia High School (Anaheim, Calif.), Faoa earned letters in football, basketball, and track and field. On the gridiron, he played on both sides of the ball and had 94 tackles, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles as a senior in 1998. Faoa was also named the "Most Valuable Player" of the basketball team, averaging 15.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Faoa was also an All-CIF shot putter. The Orange County Register selected him as its "Male Athlete of the Year" for all sports in 1998.
Anthony Parks- WR/DB
6'2" -190
Anthony Parks will return for a 2nd season with the Fairbanks Grizzlies in 2009. Parks was extremely important part of the offense last season, leading the team with (99) receptions, (1243) yards and (21) receiving touchdowns. In addition to his receiving stats, Parks also had (10) rushing attempts for (41) yards and (1) rushing touchdown.
In addition to his team contributions, Parks won IFL Offensive player of the week twice in week 15 & 17, broke the IFL record for receiving yards in a game with (223), in addition to leading the leading the league in 2008 with yards (1,243) and receptions with (99).
