Maryland Maniacs News Release

Local area talent continues to shape the Maryland Maniacs. PG County's sole professional indoor football team, the Maryland Maniacs of the Indoor Football League (IFL), has signed former University of Maryland defensive lineman and Baltimore native Durrand Roundtree. "I am pleased to have someone with the experience of Roundtree on the roster. I expect big things from him this season," stated Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Matt Steeple. With the highest strength index in the history of Maryland football recorded his senior year, Roundtree is one of the strongest players to ever wear a Terps uniform. Roundtree's strength was evident on the field during his time at Maryland as he recorded 110 tackles (60 solos) with 6 sacks for a loss of 28 yards and was one of the top defensive linemen with 30 quarterback pressures. Roundtree's pro career began in 2003 when he signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent. In 2004 Roundtree was assigned to NFL Europe's Scottish Claymores by the Indianapolis Colts. During his time overseas Roundtree recorded 6 solo tackles and 1 sack. In 2006 and 2007 Roundtree joined the ranks of the Louisville Fire and the Albany Conquest of the AF2 with another impressive showing of 35.5 tackles (27 solo), 9.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack and five forced fumbles. Most recently Roundtree contributed on defense and special teams for the 2008 Arena Bowl Champions Philadelphia Soul. With proven strength, speed and ability to get into the opposition's backfield, Roundtree is a physical force to be reckoned with. Director of Football Operations Rob Holmes states, "I feel with Durrand's leadership and experience, our defense will be a force in the IFL."
