Bloomington Extreme News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES (Ill.) - When Adam Hutchison of the Chicago Slaughter (0-3) threw the potential game-tying touchdown, overtime loomed overhead for the Bloomington Extreme (2-1), but a missed extra-point allowed the Extreme to pull out their second victory of the season, 27-26 with 4,562 fans in attendance at the Sears Centre Arena.
Luke Drone dominated the field for the Extreme by netting 110 yards on 10-of-15 passing with two touchdowns. On the ground, both Drone and Bernard Payton split time carrying the ball, respectively earning 40 and 42 yards, with a touchdown each. Adam Kesler led the receiving attack for the Extreme collecting two passes for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback for the Slaughter, Randy Hutchison, kept the game close completing 27-of-37 passes with 174 yards and three touchdowns. Hutchinson's primary target was De'Cody Fagg, who finished the game with 10 catches for 98 yards and touchdown.
The Extreme set the tone for the game early, when Eric McCollum blocked the Slaughter's field goal attempt on the opening drive of the game. Terrell Mayberry recovering the blocked kick led to Drone launching a 23-yard touchdown to Charles Sullivan on the ensuing play, giving the Extreme a quick 6-0 lead after a missed extra point. A stiff goal-line stand by the Extreme defense led to a turnover on downs. The second touchdown of the quarter was scored on a two yard run by Bernard Payton, moving the score to 13-0.
In the second quarter, Hutchison used his arm to drive the ball down the field, which put the Slaughter on the board connecting with Fagg on a four yard touchdown pass, 13-7. The Extreme were unable to score in the second quarter, while Hutchison tossed the lead-changing touchdown to Brandon Beal with 55 seconds remaining in the half, 13-14.
With the opening drive of the second half, The extreme drive 37 yards with Drone scoring on a quarterback-keeper, taking back the lead, 20-14. A pass interference call on the Extreme keeps the following Slaughter drive alive, allowing Fagg to score on a one yard run, but the game remains tied due to a missed extra-point, 20-20.
Immediately after the Slaughter kick-off, Drone connects with Kesler for a 31-yard touchdown and the eventual game-winning score, 27-20. Victory seemed immanent after the Slaughter turn the ball over on downs, until Dennison Robinso intercepts a pass from Drone on the Slaughter four yard line. This led to Fagg reeling in an eight yard touchdown from Hutchison. However a bad snap on the extra point led to Ben Aguilar hooking the kick left of the goal posts, Extreme lead 27-26. The Extreme run out what is left of the clock and earn their second win of the season.
The Extreme will travel to Green Bay this Friday to face the Blizzard in a thrilling rematch from a close contest earlier in the month. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast at Hooter's in Bloomington.
