Extreme Signs Running Back And Adds To The Defensive Unit

BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - The Bloomington Extreme has signed Running Back Derrick Brown Jr. along with three defensive players - defensive backs, Vincent Joseph and James Temple and defensive lineman, Tim Kelly.

Derrick Brown Jr., 5'10' 230 lbs. - Running Back Derrick "Tex" Brown Jr. amassed over 1200 all purpose yards as a kick returner and running back with 14 total touchdowns, 8 by kick return as a member of the Wisconsin Wolf Pack in the CIFL (same league as new IFL member Chicago Slaughter played in) during the 2009 season. Derrick led the league in average yards per return and total touchdowns. Brown spent time in the New England Patriots mini-camp as an undrafted free agent following collegiate careers at the College of Sequoias in Visilia, California and Texas A&M. While at Texas A&M, Brown received All-Big 12 Honorable Mention as a Running Back and Kick Returner. Brown is a Texas native who attended Oak High School, where he was a two-time All-State player and earned second team All-American honors from the USA Today.

Vincent Joseph, 5'10" 190 lbs. - Defensive Back from the University of Southern California (USC), Vincent Joseph was one of the top recruited defensive backs in the nation after graduating from California's Long Beach Poly High School in 2006. Joseph's high school honors included ESPN Top 150, Prep Star All-American, Prep Star All-American, Super Prep All-Farwest, Prep Star All-Western, Tacoma News-Tribune Western 100, All-CIF Southern Section first team, All-CIF Division I first team, Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team first team and All-Moore League first team. Joseph played cornerback and was a key member on special teams as a freshman and sophomore at USC in 2006 and 2007 before leaving the school. In 2009, Joseph played for the Central Valley Coyotes of the AF2, recording 52.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 8 kick returns for 165 yards.

James Temple, 6'0" 205 lbs. - Defensive Back from Illinois State will return for his third season with the Bloomington Extreme. In 2009, Temple was second in the IFL with 10 interceptions, 2 returned for touchdowns, to go along with his 57.5 tackles. In 2008, Temple was named to the IFL Eastern Conference All-Star. While at Illinois State University, Temple twice received honorable mention All-Gateway Conference honors as a defensive back in 2005 and 2006.

Tim Kelly 6'4" 275lbs - Defensive Lineman from Eastern Illinois University started all 48 games during his 4 year career. His senior season saw him record 43 tackles and 2 sacks, giving him a total of 149 tackles, 7 sacks, and an interception returned for a touchdown during his collegiate career. Kelly was the Panthers 2007 defensive captain and twice earned academic all-district honors on the ESPN: The Magazine academic teams. The Chicago Heights native (Marian Catholic High School graduate) has been an assistant coach at Illinois Wesleyan University the past two seasons, helping with the Titan defensive line.

"We're very excited about the talent that we've been able to put together for the 2010 season" said Head Coach Kenton Carr. "The additions we've added to our current core group of guys will give us another very talented team this year. We're still talking to some more guys to fill a few needs in order to reach our goal. We want to get Bloomington back to the championship game and bring home the trophy this time."

The Extreme will hold an open tryout this Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Illinois Wesleyan's Shirk Center. The tryout will take place from 9am-12pm, with registration at 8 am. $50 cash is required at registration in order to tryout.

The Bloomington Extreme will play seven home games at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in 2010. The regular season runs from March-June with playoffs to follow. The 2010 Extreme finished with a 10-5 record, making their third straight playoff appearance in the franchises four year history. Season Tickets are on sale now, call 309.434.2658.
