Bloomington Extreme News Release

The possibility of the Bloomington Extreme of the United Indoor Football League having an Eric Johnson on the field the majority of the game became a reality Wednesday.

Extreme head coach Ted Schmitz announced the signing of 6-foot-3, 300-pound offensive lineman Eric D. Johnson to a contract. Johnson is a graduate of Bloomington Central Catholic High School and Eastern Illinois University.

He becomes the second Eric Johnson on the Extreme roster, joining defensive lineman No. 47, you guessed it, Eric Johnson.

The newest Johnson, who is no relation to the other Johnson, will wear No. 75 and could see action in Saturday's 6:30 p.m. Eastern Conference matchup at Lexington against the Horsemen in Rupp Arena.

"We feel Eric will give us the depth we need on the offensive line," said Schmitz, whose team has a 5-4 record and trails first-place Rock River and RiverCity by one-half game in the Eastern Conference standings.

Johnson was a four-year starter at offensive left tackle at Eastern Illinois where he earned all-Ohio Valley Conference honors as a junior and senior. He was a first-team selection as a junior and a second-team choice as a senior. He graded out at 91.7 percent along the offensive line as a senior.

Johnson is a 2002 graduate of Bloomington Central Catholic where he earned all-state honors while playing for Coach Bobby Moews. He helped the Saints to three straight state football playoff appearances. He becomes the seventh player on the current Extreme roster, who hails from a Bloomington-Normal high school.

Others include Dion Brown, Preston Glover and Mike Rudicil from Bloomington; and Doug Higgins, Chris Hummel and Calvin Jones from Normal Community,

To make room for Johnson, the Extreme waived offensive lineman Jamarkus Gorman.
