Bloomington Extreme News Release
BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - The Bloomington Extreme Indoor Football Team announces the signings and return of four players. Wide Receiver Johnny Gray, Offensive Center, Prenny Stokes, Defensive Back, Mike Crumpler, and Wide Receiver/Quarterback, Eric McCollom will all return for the 2011 Bloomington Extreme football season.
Johnny Gray, 5'9" 185 lbs. Wide Receiver from Northern Iowa University re-joins the Extreme following a 2010 season in which Gray played in 15 games for the Extreme, recording a team leading 77 receptions, 679 receiving yards, and 9 touchdown receptions. While attending Northern Iowa University, Gray collected 141 receptions and 1,912 receiving yards, while compiling 3,724 all-purpose yards over the course of his collegiate career. The Deerfield Beach, Florida native was selected as a 1st Team Gateway Conference Wide Receiver and Punt Returner, as well as a Sports Network All-American Wide Receiver and Punt Returner.
Prenny Stokes, 6'4" 275 lbs. Offensive Center will return to the Extreme for his second professional season. Stokes was named the Offensive Captain during the 2010 campaign and started 14 games at Center while also seeing a few snaps on the defensive side of the ball where he collected 8 tackles, including 1 tackle for loss. Stokes, from Indiana State University, started on the Sycamores defensive line his freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons, prior to moving to Center his senior season.
Mike Crumpler, 5'11" 215 lbs. Defensive Back from Bowling Green University will join the Extreme for his fifth season. Crumpler, a native of Mitchellville, Maryland, recorded 23.5 tackles and 1 sack in 8 games for the Extreme in 2010. Crumpler has played 33 games over the course of 4 seasons with the Extreme, recording 175 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 safety, and 1 touchdown. In 2007, Crumpler led the Extreme defense with 95.5 tackles in 14 games played.
Eric McCollom, 6'0" 217 lbs. Wide Receiver/Quarterback will return for his second professional season with the Bloomington Extreme. During the 2010 season, McCollom saw time at Wide Receiver, Running Back, and Quarterback in 5 games played for the Extreme. McCollom was 13 of 27 passing with 2 touchdown passes, rushed for 46 yards, and had 1 reception for 10 yards. McCollom transferred to Newberry College from the University of Iowa after the 2006 season. In 2003, he started as a true freshman wide receiver for the Hawkeyes before he was sidelined by injury. Playing as both quarterback and wide receiver, McCollom saw little action from 2003 to 2005, much due to injury, and did not play the 2006 season. While at Newberry College, McCollom recorded 1385 yards on 98 completions of 165 attempts with 13 touchdowns and 2 interceptions during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He only played three games of the 2007 season due to a season-ending knee surgery. Born in Camden, South Carolina, McCollom, in his senior year of high school was named Mr. Football of South Carolina and State Offensive Player of the Year following the 2002 season. He passed for over 3,500 yards and set a single-season state record with 43 touchdown passes.
"As I mentioned when I accepted this position, it is important for our ball club to maintain some of the continuity we had to end the 2010 football season" states Head Coach Mike Murray. "All four of these men were key components during the late season turn around. We're still in the process of adding some more pieces from the 2010 roster to go along with several new additions. It's an exciting time to be a part of the Bloomington Extreme."
The Bloomington Extreme will open training camp Sunday, February 13, 2011 and kick off the season two weeks later, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Richmond Revolution with a 3:05 pm start time.
