The Windsor Express announced Monday they have signed point guard Darren Duncan.
Duncan, the 5-foot-11, 175 lbs, Queens, NY native returns to the Express after leading the team to their first NBL Canada championship in 2014. During his two seasons with Windsor in 2012-13 and 2013-14, Duncan was one of the most dominate point guards in the league. He led the NBLC in assists during both seasons. During the 2013-14 season Duncan finished with a total of 471 assists in 53 games, over 200 more than the next closest (247).
As the captain of the Express during his time in Windsor, Duncan was a leader on the court and still holds a number of all-time records; total assists (802) and total steals (160). He was named an NBL Canada All Star in in 2013 and 2014 and on April 15, 2014 he was awarded the WESPY for Best Male Basketball Player.
During the championship season of 2013-14, Duncan averaged 16.1 points, 8.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 37.4 minutes in 53 games played. He also shot over 40% from three point range, connecting on 1.6 three's per game.
The 28-year-old spent the last two seasons playing professionally in Finland and Greece. In his most recent campaign during the 2015-16 season, Duncan averaged 10.8 points, 4.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 29 minutes in 32 games played.
Duncan's veteran leadership on and off the court will be a welcome addition to the Express this season, and the club will look to him again to take on a lead role.
