Expos Trade Blank to Giants to Complete Deal

EDMONTON, AB - The Montreal Expos announced today that left-handed pitcher Matt Blank has been sent to the San Francisco Giants as the player to be named later in the March 24, 2002 trade that saw the Expos acquire right-handed pitcher Livan Hernandez and catcher Edwards Guzman for right-handed pitcher Jim Brower.

Blank, 27, began the season on the roster with Edmonton and has appeared in five games this season, posting a 1-1 record with a 4.26 ERA. He has pitched 25.1 innings, surrendering 29 hits, 14 runs and one homerun. In his five starts this season, he has struck out 22 batters, walked nine and thrown one wild pitch. The Texarkana, Texas native was 11-7 with a 3.24 ERA (147.0 IP - 53 ER) in 31 appearances (25 starts) for Ottawa last season. He has made 18 appearances in the big leagues with the Expos in his career. Montreal originally drafted Blank in the 11th round of the 1997 draft.

The Trappers return to TELUS Field on Monday, April 30 for a double-header against the Nashville Sounds. Game time is 5:05 PM.
