Chris Capuano threw eight strong innings Wednesday night lifting Tucson to a 4-3 win over the Salt Lake Stingers at Franklin-Covey Field. Capuano allowed two runs on four hits while striking out a season high eight to earn his second win.
Tucson got all the runs it would need in the first, scoring three times of Brandon Emanuel. The Sidewinders loaded the bases with no outs before Alex Cintron plated the first run with a ground out. Chris Donnels and Brad Cresse would add run scoring singles.
Brian Gordon added another Sidewinders run in the fifth with a solo home run, his third of the season.
The Stingers got a run in the second inning off Capuano despite loading the bases with no outs. Adam Riggs connected for a long solo home run in the fourth inning accounting for the second and final Stingers run.
Jose Valverde picked up his first save of the season, allowing an unearned run in the ninth.
Tucson improved to 11-16 with the win. The Sidewinders will finish the four-game series Thursday afternoon in a 9:30 a.m. game (Tucson time). John Patterson will be on the mound for Tucson. Patterson is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA.. Matt Hensley (1-1 3.43) will draw the starting assignment for the Stingers. The game will be tape delayed until 6:00 p.m. on AM 990 KTKT.
