BURLINGTON, VT --- Francisco Plasencia tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with an RBI single and then scored the winning run on a Leonard Davis RBI single that gave the Vermont Expos a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the Lowell Spinners in New York-Penn League action Saturday night at Centennial Field.

The Spinners had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly from Dominic Ramos. Lowell reliever T.J. Large came on to start the bottom of the ninth and walked Mike Daniel to leadoff the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved Daniel to second, Plasencia laced a line drive single to right to score Daniel and tie the game.

Just as important on the play, Plasencia was able to move into scoring position at second base on rightfielder Luis Soto's throw to the plate. After an intentional walk to Dee Brown, Davis lined a single over the shortstop into leftcenter that easily scored Plasencia with the winning run.

The Spinners had taken a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI groundout and passed ball, but the Expos tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double from Andy Lane.

Vermont took a 4-2 lead in the seventh inning on a Brown bases loaded sacrifice fly and a run-scoring passed ball, but this time it was Lowell's turn to tie the game with two runs of their own in the eighth inning on a wild pitch and RBI double from Matt Mercurio.

Expos starter Gene Yost allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts over the first six innings. Oscar Lira (1-1) gave up the go ahead run to Lowell in the ninth inning, but picked up the win when the Expos got the two runs in the ninth off Large (0-1).

Greg Thissen was 3-for-4 with a run scored in his first game with Vermont after joining the team on Saturday to begin a rehab assignment. Daniel was 2-for-4 with two runs, while Davis' game-winning hit extended his streak to 10 straight games started with at least one hit.

Mercurio and Jason Twomley each had two hits for Lowell (21-18), which lost two of the three games in the series to the Expos.

Vermont (12-27), which has now won four of its last six games, will begin a three-game series with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Centennial Field on Sunday beginning at 5:05 p.m. It is Stars and Stripes Night at the ballpark and their will be mini-bat pom-poms for the first 1,200 fans.
