Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Junior Blues Board of Directors met this afternoon and agreed on the selection of a Head Coach for the team. When things are settled and finalized the team will introduce him to the Springfield community. I'm fairly certain the decision was unanimous and the name will be released when the contract is signed. Good things are in store for the Springfield Jr. Blues, and I for one am excited about the changes in store for the organization. As the old saying goes..."Stay tuned for more details, coming soon."
Tonight is game two of the three game series with Port Huron. They are in last place in the North Division of the NAHL with a record of 6 - 42 - 5. Our Springfield Jr. Blues come in to tonight's game with the Falcons with a 26 - 24 -3 mark. The good guys trailed late in the third period last night but were able to score two goals in the final three minutes of the game to come from behind and win the contest. It was an ugly win, but it still looks pretty in the win column! The guys demonstrated once more why this team is so special. They lost the lead late, but never quit playing every shift like it was for the Robertson Cup. There just isn't any quit in this team. One could call them the "23 Musketeers" because they play one for all, and all for one, right down to the final horn. Last night meant the difference between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat...
Allow me to include a commercial in this edition of Jr. Blues Dateline. May 20th is one of the biggest fund raisers for the good guys. It's the annual Golf Outing at Lincoln Greens in Springfield. Registration is at 11:00am with a shotgun start at noon. If you would like to take part in a fun day of golf and hockey camaraderie, call either Heather at 217-415-7845, or Chris Kolb at 217-553-0042 for more information. They will be glad to help you make this outing a great big success. And I'll say a big "Thank you" in advance as well.
Period one went by in a blur as both teams played solid defense, and it was scoreless at the first intermission. After the break both teams came out and took the puck up and down the ice. It looked similar to the first period, but the pucks started hitting the back of the net at the 12:45 mark. Chris Sitler tickled the twine with an unassisted goal to put the good guys up 1 - 0. The score didn't hold up though as Port Huron tied the game at 14:01. Then just 28 seconds later Kyle Cook gave the lead back to Springfield with his second goal in as many nights. That made it 2 - 1 until Ethan Nauman took a sweet pass from Gavin Tufte to put the puck past the Falcon goalie. We went to second intermission with the Jr. Blues leading 3 - 1.
Period three brought plenty of action, more speed up and down the ice, and saw the Falcons pull within a goal at the 12:09 mark on a goal by Rudi Pino. The momentum didn't last long for Port Huron as they took a penalty, which led them to pull their goalie to get the fifth man on the ice, and the Blues took advantage with an empty net goal at 19:08 by Mike Fallon with assists by Ethan Nauman and Gavin Tufte. That made the score 4 - 2 and that's the way the game ended. The Jr. Blues are now 27-24-3. It looks as though Motor City will stay ahead of the Blues even if the good guys take all three next weekend, but there is another game tomorrow afternoon with these Fighting Falcons.
Until tomorrow then, so long for now!
