Everett Hawks News Release

The arenafootball2 Board of Directors, at ArenaCup6, unanimously approved the addition of the Everett Hawks to the league as an expansion team for the 2006 season. The official announcement came during halftime of ArenaCup when league President Jerry Kurz was interviewed live on Fox Sports Network.

"The Arena football family is very excited about the market in Everett," said Kurz. "I firmly believe the fans, sponsors and media will really take to our game. The Everett Hawks have demonstrated that they are qualified to take their football team to the next level," Kurz said.

This move comes at a time when af2 is looking to secure a footprint in the Pacific Northwest, as well as the West Coast. For the 2006 season, the Hawks competition will come mainly from the four California teams, as well as the newly agreed upon team from Spokane, WA. For 2007, the league is looking at adding two more teams to the northwest region.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for our players, fans and city," said Hawks head coach Dan Maciejczak. "The talent level alone will kick our play up a notch." League rules state that except for your quarterback, defensive specialist and offensive specialist, that all players will play both ways. Additionally, the Hawks will be able to add a little flavor to the team, as you may carry one international player on your roster.

af2 is considered a developmental league for players, coaches and officials. The league operates under the same rules and Mission Statement as the Arena Football League, which has gained tremendous popularity because of their national television agreement with NBC. The Arena Football League kicks off its 20th season in January of 2006.

While the Hawks may not be broadcast nationally, the league is extremely close to announcing regionally televised games in af2 markets, which may include Everett.

"The game you see on television is exactly the same brand we will be playing in the Everett Events Center," Maciejcak said.

af2 enters its seventh season of play in 2006.
