
Wolves continue good work in the offseason

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 12, 2005) - With the off-season now upon them, the Manchester Wolves are playing a starring role of another sort - as leaders in community involvement. This week the team has a number of appearances planned, highlighted by the Fourth Annual Fight to Educate and the popular local Greek celebration, Glendi. A full schedule of this week's events for the Wolves is as follows:
Wed, Sept. 14 - The Fourth Annual Fight to Educate charity event will be held this Wednesday at 8:00 PM at the Verizon Wireless Arena. This event will feature a number of great matches, such as Wolves mascot "Blitz" in a special bout with "Max," the mascot of the Manchester Monarchs. Wolves' assistant coach and Manchester Central HS football coach Jim Schubert will also be boxing that night against Central basketball coach Dave "Doc" Wheeler. The Wolves dance team will perform for the crowd and a number of dancers will also double as ring card girls. Other featured matches include: Castulo Gonzalez, an undefeated featherweight, will be competing for the 2005 Crown Royal Fight to Educate Championship belt; another professional bout featuring Manchester native Gary Bonenfant; and a match up of Audra Paquette (Miss New Hampshire 2005) vs. Alyssa Spellman (Miss New Hampshire 2004). Tickets are priced at $25 and are on sale now at the Verizon Wireless Arena Box Office. Fri. - Sun., Sept 16-18 - The popular local Greek Festival, Glendi, will be held this Friday through Sunday at the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Hanover Street in Manchester. This annual celebration of Greek culture and heritage is FREE to the public and features Greek Island cuisine and pastries, handicrafts and imports, dancing, raffles, and a special kids area equipped with an assortment of games and prizes. On Saturday, members of the Wolves dance team will be appearing at the event along with team mascot "Blitz." The Wolves will also help out in the kids area, making sure everyone is having a great time. Bring the whole family and enjoy the festivities with us!
Sat., Sept. 17 - Third Annual Weed & Seed Community Block Party Celebration - Wolves mascot "Blitz" will be making an appearance at this special event. He'll be there shaking hands, signing autographs, and he may even get his paws dirty! All community residents are invited to attend. The Weed & Seed celebration will run from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM at the Sheridan Emmett Park in downtown Manchester. There will be FREE food, activities and entertainment, a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, Soccer Tournament, Child Finder Kits, and the Manchester Public Health Van. Sat., Sept. 17 - Contemporary Chrysler Dodge Child Safety Day - Come join Wolves mascot "Blitz" at Contemporary Chrysler Dodge's Child Safety Day. Blitz will be entertaining the crowd, signing autographs and posing for pictures. The event takes place from 10 - 3 PM at the Contemporary dealership located on Elm Street in Milford, NH. John Walsh of "America's Most Wanted" will also be on hand.
Sat., Sept. 17 - Light the Night Walk - Wolves mascot "Blitz" will be on hand to join in this fundraising walk in Nashua. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. and the Walk begins at 6:30 p.m. Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening Walk to build awareness of blood cancers and raise funds for cures. Walkers carry illuminated balloons-white for survivors and red for supporters-to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Funds raised by participants support the Society's mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
