ESTERO, FL - Power-play productivity earned the Florida Everblades a 4-2 win over Kalamazoo in the Wings' first visit to Germain Arena on Wednesday night. Milan Gajic recorded two power-play goals his first game after returning from the American Hockey League's Albany River Rats. Kalamazoo cut the deficit in half with two goals in the third period, but fell short and accepted defeat for their first game on Florida's ice.
Milan Gajic, in his first game back after being recalled by Florida's AHL affiliate in Albany, put the Everblades on the board with a power-play goal five minutes into the first period. Gajic notched a backhanded goal between the wickets of Kalamazoo goalie Ryan Nie at 4:59. Defenseman Elgin Reid, who was activated today from the injured reserve, and right wing Kevin Baker were credited with the assists. At the ten minute mark Gajic and Baker struck again on the power-play, lending assists to Ryan Lang's 14th goal of the season. At 16:11, defenseman Matt Duffy notched his fourth goal of the season with the helper credited to center Colin Nicholson. The first stanza ended at 3-0 with Florida firing triple the K-Wings' shots on goal, 18-6.
The lone goal of the second period was at the 2:38 mark when Milan Gajic tossed the puck top shelf over Kalamazoo's goalie Jeremy Duchesne for his second goal of the game and ninth this season, putting the Blades up 4-0. Elgin Reid notched the assist, recording his 11th for the season.
